A special dish called At Talbīnah also referred to as Barley
This is a special dish made from flower or bran. Honey is sometimes added to it. It is called At Talbīnah due to its similarity with milk (Laban) in its whiteness and thinness. (‘Umdat ul Qārī) It is narrated about Sayyidah A’ishah that when the women would gather upon the demise of a member of her family and then disperse and she would be with her family and close ones, she would call for a pot of At Talbīnah. It would be cooked and then Tharīd (a special dish of sopped bread, meat and broth) would be prepared and At Talbīnah would be poured over it. Sayyidah A’ishah said “Eat from it. For indeed I heard Allah’s Messenger ﷺ saying, “At Talbīnah is relaxation for the heart of the ill person. It takes away grief.
(Sahih Al Bukhari, Book on foods, chapter on At Talbinah)
“And grain covered with husk, and fragrant flowers. So O men and jinns! Which favour of your Lord will you deny?“
(Surah Ar Rahman 55:12-13)
It is stated in Tafsīr Jalālain that grain in the Verse refers to wheat and barley.
