Fig as mentioned in Qur’an and Hadith

Imam Ar Razi mentions that the fig is one of those fruits which has benefit in its interior as well as its exterior. Some scholars of Tafsir state that the words (please see image)  in the Surah refer to two mountains or places of worship that were connected to the Noble Prophets.

(At Tafseer Al Kabeer)

“By oath of the fig and of the olive”

[Surah At Teen 95:1]

Figs are inverted flowers and the seeds of the fig are actually the fruit.

Figs are higher in fiber than any other fresh or dried fruit per serving. They are rich in potassiumcalciummagnesium and iron, and are an excellent source of polyphenols (plant-based chemicals thought to play a role in fighting disease).

Research has shown that figs have “superior quality” antioxidants and are one of the healthiest dried foods. They contain a substance called Psoralens that, when combined with exposure to ultraviolet light, is successful in treating several skin disorders and lymphoma.

Ahmad b. Muhammad b. ‘Abd Allah al-Nisaburi narrated from Muhammad b. ‘Arafa, who said: I was in Khurasan during the days of Al-Ridha’, peace be upon him, and Ma’mun. I said to Al-Ridha’: “O son of the Messenger of Allah, what do you say about eating figs (al-tin)?” He replied: “It is good for colic, so eat it.”

From Abu Ja’far al-Baqir, peace he upon him, who said: ‘Amir al-Mu’minin, blessings of Allah be on him, said: “Eat figs, for they are beneficial for colic. Eat less of fish, for its flesh wastes away the body and increases the phlegm and coarsens the soul.”’

From Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, he said: “Eating figs relaxes obstructions (al-sadad) [in the body] and is beneficial for the wind of colic. So eat a lot of it during the day, and eat it at night but not too much.”
